Celebrating 35 Years of Service Delivery
Mountain Lakes Behavioral Healthcare marks its 35th anniversary of providing mental illness and substance abuse treatment services to the citizens of Marshall and Jackson Counties. In October 1971, a group of civic-minded community leaders organized what is now the Marshall-Jackson Mental Health Board, Inc. d/b/a Mountain Lakes Behavioral Healthcare. Corporate papers were filed with the state and negotiations began with the Alabama Department of Mental Health for consultation services to assist in the development of a staffing grant from the federal government. By March 1972, mental health services were being provided and the first Executive Director was hired. Approximately two years later, services for the treatment of substance abuse disorders were established.

The organization has come a long way since that time. Fiscal year 2006 reflected a total of over 5,000 clients served by approximately 150 staff members. Many thanks go to the agency's volunteer Board of Directors and to the dedicated staff who strive to improve the quality and effectiveness of the mental health and substance abuse services provided by Mountain Lakes Behavioral Healthcare.
